Set Up Amazon S3 Storage for Recorded Calls
Jive’s hosted call recording feature allows calls to be recorded (inbound and/or outbound) and then saved to Amazon’s cloud storage service. Call recording can be enabled system-wide or for individual phone numbers, lines, ring groups, conference bridges, or call queues. Audio files are then stored in the cloud, so you can access them from virtually anywhere. Currently, Amazon’s Secure Simple Storage (Amazon S3) is the only approved third-party hosting solution for recorded calls.
After your Amazon S3 credentials validate, the bucket is linked to Jive and you can begin recording calls. Calls will automatically be recorded with no action required by users. However, users who do not have this setup can dial *15 + phone number to initiate call recording for an individual outbound call (this cannot be used mid-call).
Create an Amazon S3 Account
Amazon’s Secure Simple Storage (Amazon S3) is a robust, cost-effective solution for remote storage that is widely used by hundreds of thousands of customers (see use cases). Amazon S3 provides a simple web-services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to customers (see Amazon).
1. Click here to navigate to Amazon Web Services’ new user/sign on webpage.
2. Enter the email address you would like to use on the account (My email address is:).
3. Select I am a new user (sign in if you already have an account).
4. Click [Sign in using our secure server].
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to create your login credentials and account.
6. Enter payment information (see pricing).
Note: 1 GB will store between 1,000 (.wav) and 10,000 (.wav49) minutes of recorded calls.
Create a Bucket (Top-Level Folder)
1. If you haven’t already, sign in to Amazon Web Services.
2. Click [Create Bucket] in the top-left.
You cannot use spaces in the bucket name (best practice is to use underscores ( _ ) or periods ( . ) instead).
Link Amazon S3 Bucket to Jive
Once your Amazon S3 account has been created, it must be linked to Jive through the portal so that calls are appropriately recorded and stored.
1. Click here (you will need to sign in) to obtain the bucket AWS Access Key ID and AWS Secret Access Key.

3. Click System Settings in the left sidebar.
4. From the Recording tab > Storage section, enter the AWS Access Key ID, AWS Secret Access Key, and Bucket Name.
5. Click [SAVE].

Storage and Naming Convention
When a call is recorded, the audio file will be saved to your Amazon S3 bucket (storage folder). Jive will create a new folder for each year, with first and second level folders for each respective month and day (Year > Month > Day). It may take a full business day before recordings are accessible.
File names use the following format:

Jive currently provides two encoding options for recorded calls:
Smaller file size (default, recommended). 1GB of storage will hold approximately 10,000 minutes of recorded calls.
Larger file size, more compatible with mobile devices. 1GB of storage will hold approximately 1,000 minutes of recorded calls.
Recordings are sent to Amazon S3 using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and then added using Service Side Encryption (SSE). According to Amazon, SSE uses one of the strongest block ciphers available, 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-256). 256-bit is the largest key size defined for AES. Server-side encryption is about data encryption at rest, that is, Amazon S3 encrypts your data as it writes it to disks in its data centers and decrypts it for you when you access it.
The simplest way to access your stored files is via the Amazon AWS Management Console. There are a number of third-party solutions for Amazon file management. These solutions, while completely viable, are outside of the scope of this documentation. However, if you are looking for a desktop application, CloudBerry has worked well for many of our customers.
